WAC Lighting President Shelley Wald to Deliver OLED Presentation at IES/AIA Office in Chicago on April 25th

“A Niche for OLED in a World of LED”

GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK – WAC Lighting President Shelley Wald will deliver a presentation on Organic LEDs at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) at 35 East Wacker Drive, Suite 250 in Chicago, from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, April 25.  Sponsored by the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) Chicago Chapter, the presentation is titled “A Niche for OLED in a World of LED.”

LED has taken center stage in the lighting world as the light source touted to replace all other sources into the future but do we really believe that there won’t be any other innovations to come? With entirely different characteristics from its conventional LED cousins, Organic LEDs may challenge that assumption with new possibilities.  Ms. Wald, a winner of Residential Lighting Magazine’s Industry Leadership award, is the IES’ special invited speaker for this event and she will illustrate the history, development and unique design features of OLED lighting.

OLED lighting has potential as a promising next generation technology. The global OLED lighting market was valued at $12.7 million in 2010 and is expected to grow to reach $8.3 billion by 2020. OLED lighting has potential applications in specialty lighting, architectural lighting, back lighting, signage and general illumination.

Described by her peers as "Intelligent, Articulate and Responsible," Ms. Wald has already earned a reputation as a socially conscious and visionary leader. She launched the company's Responsible Lighting campaign, which highlights a commitment to responsible manufacturing practices and energy efficient technology, as well as providing opportunities for those who are less fortunate.  WAC develops nearly all of its products, to a component level, within a wholly owned zero-landfill ISO 14001/9001-certified manufacturing campus with in-house UL approved testing labs.

Leveraging new technology as a platform for lighting innovations, WAC has been a pioneer in electronics and solid-state lighting such as Sol, a unique chandelier designed around Organic LED light sources. Ms. Wald is in-charge of operations in North America and South America and oversees sales, marketing, product development and administrative activities, in conjunction with the firm's state-of-the-art manufacturing campus in China.  The daughter of Tony and Tai Wang (the founders and principals of WAC Lighting), she will carry the torch by directing strategic global integration and upholding the company's commitment to excellence.

A dedicated contributor to the lighting profession, she also serves on the Standards Technical Panels for the development of safety standards for OLED Lighting and for LED Lighting with Underwriters Laboratories.  She co-organized the American Lighting Association's Youth Initiative and maintains a Lighting Specialist designation.  Ms. Wald also established a consortium of lighting manufacturers to support the H foundation’s 10th annual Goombay Bash, a fundraiser for basic science cancer research.  She is active with the American Institute of Architects, National Association of Electrical Distributors, Illuminating Engineering Society, the Electrical
Manufacturer’s Club, and National Executives of Women in Hospitality.

Ms. Wald also serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Asian Women's Center to build public awareness about domestic violence and abuse against Asian women and their children.  She is a member of Rotary International, a service organization serving local communities and charities.
